Ripple Rock Shawl

Today I am publishing my latest design, the Ripple Rock Shawl. This one was so much fun!  I loved doing both the stitch patterns and I found it quite addictive to work on.

The construction is top down beginning with an interesting little texture stitch which looks quite complex but is a breeze to knit.  Then comes the main event which is the wide band of colorwork.  This is a slip stitch pattern which is simple and logical to knit.  And you are only working with one color per row.  The color changes every second row with the other color carried up the side edge.

The sizing is easily adjustable to whatever yarn quantities you have to work with.  Both the texture stitch section and the slipstitch band may be worked any number of times to change the proportions of the shawl and accommodate your yardage.

The first sample I knit was a scarf size using Handmaiden Casbah leftovers.  I used 2 partial skeins to knit this little scarf which I find the perfect size for just a little warmth around the neck.  The color combination is a little more subtle than the combo in the shawl sample but I love it all the same.

The shawl sample was knit using Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in the colorways Cousteau and Glazed Pecan.  I spent a happy afternoon trying to match these two skeins to other yarn in my stash before I noticed the obvious.  They looked pretty good together.  So I did a little swatch and that convinced me.  Two colors that I would never have put together looked great in this pattern.

Ripple Rock Shawl up for sale today on Ravelry.

    • Thanks, Karen 🙂

  5. Help! Having serious mental block on Ripple Rock. Cannot understand stitch adjustment for 2nd repeat of Row 5 after the 1-8 set up. Thanks!!!

    • Hi Judy
To work rows 5 – 8 after the initial 8 set up rows, the stitch pattern repeat is in the red box. So work the beginning of the row, up to the red box, then repeat the stitches in the red box until you have just enough sts left to complete the row up to the centre stitch. Then work in the same manner for the the rest of the row following the centre stitch.
I hope that makes sense. If you require further help, the easiest way to reach me is by email. My email address is included in the pattern, on page 3. Just shoot me an email and I’d be happy to help 🙂

  6. I’m sure you’ve solved my problem. Thanks.

  7. Good evening! Is it possible to purchase this pattern from you directly rather than through Ravelry? I will be glad to PayPal or Venmo you the full cost of the pattern in exchange for a PDF of the pattern. Please let me know if this is an option. Thanks!

    • Yes, absolutely. I will send you an email.
